How to Make Cannabis Oil Tinctures

How to Make Cannabis Oil Tinctures

Nowadays, homemade cannabis oil tinctures are among the most popular DIY marijuana concentrates on the market. Tinctures are used for many purposes — from pain relief and relaxation to joint pain management and sleep aids.

Cannabis oil tinctures are typically made with olive oil, coconut oil, or a mixture of both to dilute the concentrated marijuana. This makes them perfect for use in recipes or as a standalone product. There are different types of weed oil tinctures, like CBD oil tinctures, but we will be focusing on THC oil tinctures (although the creation process is the same except for the type of oil used).

The best part about making your own tinctures is that it’s incredibly easy and cost-effective. However, while the process of making a cannabis tincture can be simple, it does require patience. You must let the mixture sit for a while before using it.

Decarboxylate Your Weed

Decarboxylate Your Weed

The first step to making cannabis coconut oil tinctures is to decarboxylate your raw cannabis flower. This process involves heating the marijuana in a low-temperature oven. Decarboxylation uses gentle heat to activate marijuana ingredients and make them easier to absorb by the body.

It’s important to note that you should only use high-quality cannabis for making homemade cannabis-infused oil, as low-grade marijuana may not provide the desired health benefits. If you want the best results, you need potent THC oils.

Here are the steps to make marijuana oil tinctures:

  1. Using your grinder, finely grind your decarboxylated cannabis. You want to ensure that your weed is finely ground so it will mix easier with your cannabis oil.
  2. Line your baking sheet with foil and place your finely ground cannabis on top
  3. Place your ground weed in the oven at a low heat of 225°F and bake for up to two hours.
  4. Remove the grounds from the oven and let them cool.

The Quick Wash Technique of Making Cannabis Infused Coconut Oil

The quick wash technique is the most common way to make your own cannabis-infused oil at home. This cannabis oil recipe is easy, fast, and works well for most people. It involves placing your decarbed cannabis in a jar and covering them with refined coconut oil. Let the mixture sit overnight before straining out the plant material.

Here is a little step-by-step guide to the Quick Wash Technique:

First, in two clean and dry containers, separately store your ground cannabis and infused coconut oil in the freezer and let them sit overnight. Doing this will allow you to get the best taste and aroma of your cannabis-infused oil tincture.

Your decarbed cannabis should be ready for infusion the following day. First, remove it from the freezer and add it into a large mason jar or another container with an airtight lid.

Gently pour the freezing-cold organic coconut oil into the container containing your decarbed cannabis, stirring occasionally. When making cannabis infusions, it’s important to add oil slowly so that the refined coconut oil doesn’t splash and spill out of the container.

Also, make sure to pour sufficient vegetable oil so that the ground plant matter is completely submerged in the essential oil. You’ll be able to tell you’ve done this correctly when the ground plant matter is completely covered by a layer of your preferred carrier oil.

After pouring your cannabis cooking oil, seal the container and give it a good shake to ensure all raw cannabis flower is fully submerged in the liquid. The coconut oil will extract the cannabinoids from the cannabis flower and dissolve them into an oily liquid.

Leave the mixture undisturbed for about an hour or so. This will provide enough time for the mixture to combine thoroughly. Once the mixture has been left to sit, it’s time to shake the jar. Shaking the jar will help mix up all ingredients and ensure they are adequately distributed throughout. You can also use a spoon to stir the mixture, but shaking is generally recommended as it provides a more thorough mixing process. You’ll want to shake the jar for about 15 seconds each time.

Take out a fresh container and a coffee filter. Using the coffee filter, gently strain the mixture into the container. The goal is to remove any leftover plant matter in your homemade oil. You should end up with a clear liquid on one side and a sludge-like residue on the other. Then, the liquid is ready for use!

As you can see, it’s not difficult at all to make cannabis oil at home. You can make small batches, so you don’t have to put away the whole thing if the potent oil won’t get used in time. It doesn’t matter if you make canna oil for the first or the hundredth time; the process is relatively simple.
