The Best Way to Make THC-infused Caramels at Home

The Best Way to Make THC infused Caramels at Home

Most people enjoy caramel candies. Whether soft or hard, this chewy delight is a great treat with exceptional taste. Infusing this candy with THC takes it to another level. You get to enjoy the creamy and soothing combination of butter, cream, and sugar. Also, the cannabinoids attach well to the caramel’s fat content. Carrying around and eating THC-infused caramel is also a nice way to conceal your “business” from everyone else.

There is also a lot you can do with your caramel. Every day, people become more creative with marijuana edibles, particularly caramels. Luckily, although you can buy cannabis caramel from a marijuana dispensary, you can also make it at home.

THC-infused Caramels Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup cannabutter
  • 1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup corn syrup
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla essence
  • 2 1/2 cups brown sugar
  • Pinch of salt

The equipment you need include:

  • Candy thermometer
  • Stove
  • Caramel candy wrappers
  • 9 by13-inch dish
  • Heavy-bottomed saucepan

Method:

  1. Butter your 9 by13-inch dish.
  2. Place the cannabutter in your heavy-bottomed saucepan and melt it on the stove.
  3. When the cannabutter is melted, put in the brown sugar and salt. Stir them in until well combined.
  4. While still stirring, pour in the milk and then the corn syrup.
  5. Continue stirring your mixture, and dip in the candy thermometer. Once it gets to 242 degrees Fahrenheit (116-degree Celsius), remove from heat. In the absence of a thermometer, drip a bit of the syrup in some cold water. If it firms up and turns into a pliable ball, your syrup is ready. This process takes between 12 and 15 minutes.
  6. Pour in the vanilla essence and stir it in briskly.
  7. Empty your syrup into the buttered dish and store it inside the refrigerator.
  8. Once cooled, remove your dish from the fridge and allow it to warm up to room temperature. 9. Place the caramel on a chopping board and cut it into 1-inch squares.
  9. Wrap your THC-infused caramel candy individually in candy wrappers and store them in a candy jar.

Note that once you start the cooking process, you cannot walk away from it. Your attention needs to be on your candy mixture as you stir it up until it is ready. Remember also that the syrup itself will be very hot, hotter than boiling water. Even if some syrup drips on the counter, resist the urge to touch it.

Homemade Cannabutter

Homemade Cannabutter

Some people like to make everything from scratch for the fun of it, and to be sure of the products they are using. If you prefer to make your own cannabutter, below is a recipe you can follow to get quality cannabis-infused butter.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup butter
  • 7 grams of cannabis buds (You may use more. The more you use, the more potent it will be.)

The equipment you need include:

  • Cheesecloth
  • Double boiler
  • Oven
  • Strainer
  • Baking tray
  • Parchment paper
  • Container

Method:

  1. Begin by decarboxylating your cannabis buds. Use a blender or food processor to grind up the cannabis for 30 seconds. Pour the ground up cannabis on your baking tray lined up with parchment paper. Place it in your preheated oven and let it bake for 45 to 60 minutes at 240 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. As the cannabis dries up in the oven, fill the bottom pot of your double boiler with water. Let the water reach the bottom of the upper bowl. Place the water on the stove and bring it to a boil.
  3. Once the water below starts boiling, bring the heat down. Let it continue boiling on low heat. Place the butter on the top bowl, and after the butter has melted, add your cannabis to the butter.
  4. The cooking time for the cannabis butter mixture is 2 to 3 hours, with occasional stirring every 15 minutes.
  5. Once the cooking time elapses, take the bowl off the heat and let it cool. Secure a cheesecloth or strainer over the bowl and allow the cannabutter to flow through it into a container.
  6. Put the container inside the fridge. As it cools down further, it hardens.
  7. Reheat the butter and strain it into another container. This final step is optional, but it ensures that your butter is clean, without any plant material or impurities.

The Potency of Your Cannabutter

The Potency of Your Cannabutter

A factor that weed consumers are careful to check before consumption is the potency of their products. When making the cannabis butter at home, remember that the potency of the cannabis is not always consistent. There are inefficiencies in the cannabis extraction process. It only extracts about 60 percent of the cannabinoids.

Some remedies could help increase the potency of your cannabutter. The most important of these steps is to decarboxylate the weed. It is the first step in the process, but some people skip it. But, when you bake the weed in the oven, it dries completely and unleashes the full potential of its psychoactive effects.

Second, buy high-quality butter. It should be organic and unsalted. Low-quality butter may contain water or some impurities. If using homemade butter, squeeze it using cheesecloth to let out all the water. Third, when portioning the cannabutter, divide the portions vertically rather than scooping it off. Lastly, make sure that the butter and cannabis mixture mixes uniformly.

The Potency of Your Cannabis Caramel

You will want to know the potency of the THC-infused caramel you are preparing at home. The way to do this is to know the potency of the cannabis butter you purchased. If you buy the cannabutter from our marijuana dispensary, you will find the product’s potency details on the description.

If you make your own cannabis butter, determining its potency is easy. Experts advise that if the weed you purchased had a THCA percentage label, you only have to multiply that figure by 0.88. That will be your adjusted amount of THC. Use this figure to calculate the potency of your finished product, the THC-infused caramel.

For a start, do not exceed 5 to 10 mg per caramel. If that doesn’t give you a buzz, wait at least 2 hours before having more.

Get Creative With Your THC-infused Caramel

When it comes to creative ways to eat your THC-infused caramel, you have many options to choose from. You may sprinkle some sea salt or other fancy salt. You may also dip the caramel cubes in some melted chocolate to give them a special coating. Some people cut up the caramel and mix it with ice cream or yogurt. You may also add it to your brownies, popcorn, pretzels, and other treats. Only remember to go slow because this caramel is the “special” kind.
